Is an airplane the perfect carrier for an infectious disease?

I’ve always thought that air transportation would be the perfect means to spread an infectious disease across the world. We have seen that germs can be spread on flights as there has been confirmed cases of SARS, tuberculosis and influenza caught in this manner.

If a virulent infection started in Atlanta and spread thanks to folks traveling by plane, how quickly would it spread to the west coast of the US or even Sydney, Australia
